Avatar 2009, film by Cameron which came as a mega blockbuster was not an ordinary movie but an extra-ordinary experience which enthralled the viewers with its stunning visuals and living virtual reality. It was launched in 2009 and took its viewers to the enchanting, Pandora, a moon of a gas giant located in orbit of Alpha Centauri. 

The story is developed in the Avatar very special feature where Jake Sully, an ex-marine who is a paraplegic, join an operation that involves the use of a genetically created Na’vi’s body. The Na’vi is another artificial species of Pandora which are tall and have blue skin color and belong to the humanoid class. The main character Jake is an example of a person connected increasingly with the avatar, he completely identified with the Na’vi people and even fell in love with the strong and independent Na’vi woman Neytiri. 

Yet, the uniqueness for Avatar was the piece de résistance – the visual effects of a league of its own. Director Cameron’s visions of Pandora was literally represented to the betters of belief through real like representation of the place filled with bioluminescent plants and animals. The employ of 3D technology probably could be named as one of the most innovative features of the movie, making the image depth and thus letting the audience get inside Pandora. 

Despite of its dazzling graphics and bright imagery of a distant planet, James Cameron tried to tell about the contemporary tendencies of destruction of the nature and colonialism. The human corporation, RDA, is motivated by a simple desire for profit, and aims to mine valuable materials located in Pandora and discard the consequences of their actions on the native Na’vi population. In this sense, it can be regarded as a commentary about the devastating role of human which has been manifested on own Earth. 

It is evidently clear that Avatar was culturally popular. The film became the biggest blockbuster in cinema history on its release that too for some time. The film promoted the topic of environmental preservation and indigenous peoples’ rights, creating opportunities and impact for a new generation of filmmakers and vfx artists. 

Even though the storyline of the film can be viewed as quite clichéd, this film has to be considered a major breakthrough in the scope of the cinematography. Avatar became the first film to encourage the next movies to experiment with fresh narrative techniques and state-of-the-art graphics. Its legacy continues to resonate, as evidenced by the highly anticipated sequels that have followed.
